This is a very handsome, very characterful and very threadbare golden plush mohair teddy bear. Dating to the 1930s and is of English in origin.

We attribute him to Merrythought. One can easily imagine him being the favorite toy of a child at the outbreak of World War two. Oh my gosh you can imagine a young evacuated child taking their beloved Teddy with them when they are escaping the bombing in the city. These children did not know the family that they were going to live with: A beloved Teddy from home would have been such a comfort to them. He is complete with original clear glass and black pupil glass eyes and black vertically stitched nose and V mouth.

He is fully swivel jointed with swivel head due to the circular card/wood washers as you would expect in a bear of this age. He has wonderful cupped ears, and a long snout. He has long arms with three black stitched nails to each paw, each paw has brown linen pads. He has small hump back. He is softly stuffed to all limbs and body. If you squeeze his tummy you can just feel some hardness there, possibly a defunct squeaker or growler. He has upturned feet again with three stitched black thread nails and brown linen pads. He does not have the Merrythought cloth label to his foot making us believe that the brown linen pads to arms and feet are a professional replacement. This is a fantastic opportunity to own a superb early teddy bear. He makes for the perfect house guest, quiet and not at all needy....

You will absolutely love him we guarantee. Size: Height 16 1/2 inch (42.5 cm). If you like pristine antique toys, respectfully this chap is not for you. He has been extremely well loved by generations of children. There are many areas of thinning to his golden silk fur seen all over his head and body.

Three stitched nails missing to his left leg. His neck is a little floppy but his scarf helps support his neck. A super adorable English teddy that displays fabulously anywhere..
