RARE Antique LARGE 45 x 72 English Tapestry Medieval Lion Hunt handwoven wool

RARE excellent condition Antique large 72 in x 45 in (6 ft x 3 ft 9 in) English hand woven wool tapestry. Dates from the late 1800's or early 1900's. See the photos for the beautiful workmanship.

Notice how parts of the scene are more tightly woven to create greater detail. Depicted is a medieval scene of men on horseback in a forest, swords drawn, with dog, hunting a lion. The edge of the tapestry is sewn to black tape which is turned to the back and creates a hemmed edge. There are some missing stitches along the very edge of the tapestry where it is attached to the tape, characteristic of being hand made.

The tapestry has no backing. This tapestry is in exceptional condition. The colors are extraordinary for a textile of this age.

There is no fading or abrash. There are no rips, tear, holes, odors or evidence of mending.
