Mrs Beeton's famous book of Household Management was first published in 1861 and became an instant classic. This new edition, published exactly 100 years ago, has revised, expanded and updated the original to take account of'modern' developments in both kitchen equipment and labour-saving devices, and in outlook: the editors state in their Preface that'We have relinquished almost entirely the old British prejudice against things foreign, and adopted, in great measure, those French methods which established a bond of union among good cooks all the world over'.

In addition to an increased number of recipes from around the world, and a new section on vegetarian cookery, the 1923 edition also includes sections on'The Home Lawyer' and'The Home Doctor'. Three pages of early 1920s ads at beginning and 19 pages (one loose) at end of book.
