1830 Edward Wallis Principal Events In English History Antique Jigsaw Puzzle

Extremely rare and scarce beautiful dissected antique jigsaw puzzle featuring. The Principal Events In English History From The Landing Of Caesar To Queen Victoria complete in original tray lid box.

In 1805, he opened the Instructive Toy Warehouse. He published music imprints, maps by John Cary, and children's material, co-operating with the Newberys and various provincial retailers. With his son Edward, who joined the business in 1813, he also operated Wallis's, a circulating library and reading room. Together they published under the imprint Wallis and Son or John & Edward Wallis. Edward succeeded his father and published under his own name until about 1847, at which time the Wallis stock was taken over by J.

The Wallis family John Sr. And Edward produced pictorial maps as well as cartographic, folding board games and historical jigsaw puzzles all of which are highly sought after given their heritage and extreme scarcity. This stunning well preserved example features hand coloured engravings of forty eight important scenes in English History from The Landing Of Caesar to Queen Victoria succeeding an earlier example.

Ending at the death of Richard III, published by both Edward Edlin and Edward Wallis c1820. Description and dates beneath each scene with all jigsaw pieces remaining in bright well preserved condition with three replacement pieces (images fourteen, fifteen, sixteen and seventeen) which appear to have been made from a copy of the print. These three pieces do complete the puzzle beautifully however, to preserve for another hundred years I would suggest a more skillful replacement. Pictorial lid with titles has been professionally repaired and made solid with opening/sliding feature working perfectly. Minor loss to bottom corner of Leuchars Late Dunnett's Toy Warehouse paper label to rear of original mahogany box.

Extremely scarce and rare attractive example, very worthy of collection and preservation. Please see images which reflect condition. Completed puzzle size: 54cm x 42cm. Box size: 26cm x 21cm x 6cm.
